Post-Traumatic Occurrence

When the Past Still Echoes

Some experiences change us. Whether it’s a single life-threatening event or a series of overwhelming hardships, trauma leaves an imprint. You may appear fine on the outside, but inside, the memories linger — loud, silent, or both. This is what we call a Post-Traumatic Occurrence (PTO) — a lasting emotional response to deeply distressing events.

You might be experiencing:

  • Flashbacks or vivid, intrusive memories
  • Nightmares or disturbed sleep
  • Emotional numbness or detachment from loved ones
  • Irritability or sudden anger
  • Hypervigilance — always feeling “on guard”
  • Avoidance of reminders — people, places, or conversations
  • Feelings of guilt, shame, or helplessness
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Unexplained physical symptoms, like headaches or fatigue

PTO can affect anyone — survivors of violence, abuse, loss, accidents, or long-term stress. It isn’t a weakness. It’s your brain’s natural response to being overwhelmed, and it deserves attention and healing.

At Guru Counseling, we create a safe, trauma-informed space where your story can be honored, your nervous system can begin to calm, and your path toward healing can unfold at your pace. Our trained therapists help you gently reconnect with the present — not by forcing change, but by guiding it.

You are not broken. You’re surviving. Let us help you move beyond survival, into healing.
