For Our Veterans: When the Battle Doesn’t End at Home
Returning from military service doesn’t always mean leaving the fight behind. Many veterans carry invisible wounds — emotional, psychological, and spiritual — that civilian life doesn’t always understand. The transition can be difficult, and the burdens heavy. But healing is possible.
Veterans may experience a range of challenges after service, including:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) — flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness
- Depression — persistent sadness, loss of interest, hopelessness, or isolation
- Anxiety — excessive worry, panic attacks, restlessness, or difficulty sleeping
- Anger and Irritability — sudden outbursts, difficulty controlling temper
- Survivor’s Guilt — questioning why one made it back while others didn’t
- Substance Use — alcohol or drug use to self-medicate emotional pain
- Relationship Strain — difficulty reconnecting with family, feeling distant or misunderstood
- Identity and Purpose Confusion — struggling with a sense of self or meaning outside the military
- Suicidal Thoughts — feelings of hopelessness or being a burden
These are not signs of weakness. They are human responses to intense experiences. And they deserve real care.
